Savoy Sash Windows were contacted by a historic public house in the heart of Denham Village, Buckinghamshire. The building featured ten original sash windows that had become draughty, worn and in need of structural timber repairs. As part of the pub’s ongoing preservation and comfort improvements, the owners required a specialist team to restore the windows to full working order while retaining their traditional character.
Scope of Works
We carried out a full refurbishment of 10 sash windows over the course of 8 days, ensuring each one was carefully restored in line with the building’s historic features. The works included:
✔ Full sash window refurbishment
All windows were removed, serviced, stripped back where necessary, and restored to ensure smooth operation and long-term performance.
✔ Professional draught-proofing system
A discreet, modern draught-proofing solution was installed in every sash to improve energy efficiency, reduce heat loss and prevent rattling — without altering the appearance of the frames.
✔ New sills in sapele hardwood
Several windows had failed or rotten sills. These were fully replaced using sapele hardwood, chosen for its durability, stability and suitability for traditional joinery.
✔ Additional timber splice repairs
Where decay was localised, we carried out precise splice repairs using matching sapele hardwood sections. This preserved as much original timber as possible while ensuring structural integrity.
